Sustainability

For all those who follow us!

Sustainability has not just been a topic at the Haas distillery since yesterday. A conscious and resource-conserving approach to nature has always been a matter of course at Haas - and not just since the term "sustainability" has been on everyone's lips.

Looking back on the more than 120-year history of the Haas distillery, it becomes clear that a respectful approach to nature and the animal world in Franconian Switzerland is not just a current trend for us, but also a vital necessity for the survival of our industry and future generations.

Nature conservation and protection of wildlife

We are already a partner in the Bavarian Orchard Pact and, in cooperation with the Landschaftspflegeverband Forchheim e.V. , we are planting more than 50 trees with old fruit varieties on areas that are managed with particular care in order to not only give nature a "rest" to regenerate, but to consciously help it return to its original state.

For example, the Forchheim District Office and the Haas distillery jointly organised the Orchard Day 2024.

Procurement of raw materials

We attach great importance to the origin of our raw materials. More than 80% of the fruit and cereals that we use for our products come from the region or, to a large extent, from our own cultivation. This is continuously monitored as part of our certification by the Genussregion Oberfranken. By working with local fruit growers, we not only support the regional economy, but also reduce the CO2 emissions that would otherwise be caused by long transport routes.

Growing our own fruit not only ensures the best quality of our raw produce, but also makes an important contribution to preserving the Franconian cultural landscape. We are proud of the fact that some of our own fruit trees are among the oldest stocks of "old varieties" in Franconian Switzerland. These fruit trees, some of which are more than 120 years old, are tended with great respect and love and, of course, exclusively by hand. Their yield makes a very special contribution to the quality of our distillates.

Energy efficiency

The Haas distillery uses only the renewable raw material wood to fire the stills and heat the mash. This wood is obtained from the prunings of our fruit trees and from our own forest. This not only makes a positive contribution to our ecological footprint, but also gives the finished distillate an individual flavour,

The first photovoltaic systems were installed on the farm back in 2000 and have been continuously expanded and modernised ever since.

Water consumption

Responsible use of water is important to us. We have implemented systems that optimise water consumption during production, e.g. the cooling water required for distillation is fed into a closed circulation system and reused, e.g. we use it to feed the underfloor heating in the tasting room / farm shop.

Social responsibility

The Haas distillery is actively involved in the community of Pretzfeld and the Franconian Switzerland region. We support local events and promote cooperation with schools and educational institutions to raise awareness of sustainable practices. We also attach great importance to fair working conditions and the further training of our employees.

Waste management

We follow a strict waste management policy to reduce waste and promote recycling. All production waste is either reused or disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. We also rely on sustainable packaging that is recyclable and made from environmentally friendly materials.

Outlook

We are aware that sustainability is an ongoing process. That is why we are constantly setting ourselves new goals to further improve our environmental footprint. In the coming years, we plan to further optimise our production processes and develop new sustainable products - not only against the backdrop of the upcoming generational change.

We would like to thank our customers and partners for their support on this journey and look forward to shaping a sustainable future together.
